EASTER CRAFTS

THIS CRAFT WENT ALONG WITH THE EASTER BOOK ABOUT THE MEANINGS OF EASTER.

EASTER Lesson

Tuesday we spent some time on why we celebrate Easter. I shared a felt story on Christ's Resurrection. The Resurrection symbolizes a new beginning as does the beginning of spring.
The word Easter comes from the word Eostre, the goddess of spring. Before the time Jesus lived, there were festivals thanking the gods for spring. The egg is a symbol of new life. For thousands of years it was the custom to give eggs as gifts at spring festivals. There are Easter lilies and other spring flowers that are symbols of new life and hope.
Many children believe that the Easter bunny brings them their easter eggs. This legend began many years ago. There was a story about a woman who dyed eggs for her children at Easter. She hid them in a nest. When the children found the nest, a big rabbit hopped away. They thought the rabbit brought the eggs, and the story spread.
So hear is a little history on the Easter holiday. We did an Easter craft to go along with the lesson.
I will share more later today...

A great Day!!

What an exciting day Monday was for the kids. We spent the first half of our day at a cousins first birthday party. It is wonderful living so close to so many family members and the kids have lots of cousins to play with.
I gave the kids a few minutes to "settle down" while putting the baby down for a nap which was then followed by art. Our pre-schooler painted a picture of a queen and her castle for the letter Q and our boy painted a picture of two dinosaurs finding a carcass for dinner to go along with the poem that he wrote and memorized. The kids presented their work to their Dad and I later that evening.
Our daughter also read her first book! I love the scholastic sight word books that start with level A and move to level C. You can purchase them for different ages and levels of reading. I found these at scholastic.com but I believe they can also be found at www.rainbowresource.com. E-bay might be a good choice as well.
While our daughter spent time on starfall, I spent time with our son on Science and Spelling.
